For those who i don't have email addresses

This was a email my mom sent out to people.
Hi,
Many of you know that Katie has been suffering with pain in the right side of her face for well over a year. It has gotten progressively worse and we hadn't been able to determine what was causing it. She has been on several different combinations of medications to try and help with the condition but none really got the job done and they made her fatigued, nauseated, restless, depressed and she gained weight on them. Way too many side effects to be useful.
We finally made our way to a specialist at the University of Utah who had some further MRI and CT scans done to try and image whether the pain was caused by tumors or something else.
Good news, no new tumors. Bad news, the pain is being caused by one of the wires on her implant that is pushing on the nerve. Rats! So that means deciding whether to have surgery done here or going back to LA to have it done by the surgeons who implanted the device originally
We really didn't want her to have to have more surgery but we need to get her off those bad medications and she wants to get on with her life and get a full time job. So the surgery is the best answer for now. We would like to get it planned soon so she is feeling better by later in the Spring.
You're right, it never ends for that poor girl. But she is really ready to be done with these pains and fatigue. We appreciate all the love and support you give her through these hard times. She knows that she is really blessed to have such a strong support system in her life.
